- I have a Supra and bad phone lines. The Supra does not handle them
- well at all. Often it will not connect at all and sometimes it will
- disconnect randomly. I've been doing the email thing with Supra
- support for a month or so now (it takes about week to get a reply) and
- their suggestions don't help.
-
- Sometimes the Supra does connect and works great and I love the LED
- display on it. I have had someone else take my Supra and it worked
- great for them at 28K where I have never ever seen a 28k connection on
- it so it's not the Supra but my phone lines.
-
- I have tried several other modems to help isolate my problems. The
- connect problem is ten times worse in the morning for some reason.
- Since I leave the modem on 24 hours I don't think it is the modem
- warming or something. I assume at this point it is something outside
- of my house.
-
- The other modems I have tried are a USR Mac-and-Fax Sportster (I used
- it on the PC with linux) and a GVC 28K. Of the three the Sportster
- does the worst for me. The cheap GVC connects almost every time at
- between 21 and 26K but it seems to have a lower thruput compared to
- the Supra when it works. The Sportster connected better and stayed
- connected better than the Supra and had better thruput in general
- (the thruput was not scientific, I mostly watched BPS numbers while
- transfering files).
-
- At this point I am selling the Supra and getting a USR Sportster.
-
-
- The ISP I connect to uses Practical Peripherals modems and they have a
- lot of trouble with their modems hanging and needing to be reset by
- hand (which is difficult for remote POPs 30 miles away).
-
-
- I hope this helps.
